Section 18.5. How will services be monitored in an ESA landscape? Where will the necessary metadata come from?

18.5. How will services be monitored in an ESA landscape? Where will the necessary metadata come from?

Just as enterprise services will use standardized interfaces to access the functional core of services, SAP envisions that three additional operations layers will be added to enterprise services for the purposes of administration, performance monitoring, and security. (For a discussion of security issues, see Chapter 19.)

ESA life cycle management tools will call upon these layers for installation, configuration, upgrades, load balancing, and prioritization of services within larger business processes. The tools for doing so will eventually be integrated into SAP NetWeaver to create a single, automated interface able to monitor or administer the entire landscape at a glance. SAP is currently focused on developing and driving the adoption of the standards and interfaces needed to make this vision a reality.
