Change Text Size


Change Text Size

You can increase or decrease the size of the text in your document. Increase the size to make reading the text easier; decrease the size to fit more text on one page.

  1. Select the text that you want to assign a new size.

  2. Click image from book to display a list of the possible sizes for the current font.

  3. Click the size you want to use.

  4. Click anywhere outside the selection to continue working.

Emphasize Information with Bold, Italic, or Underline

You can apply italics, boldface, or underlining to text in your document to emphasize it.

  1. Select the text that you want to emphasize.

  2. Click the Bold icon ( image from book ), the Italic icon ( image from book ), or the Underline icon ( image from book ) on the Standard toolbar.

    image from book Word applies the emphasis you selected.

  3. Click anywhere outside the selection to continue working.

Superscript or Subscript Text

You can assign superscript or subscript notation to any text to make it appear above or below the regular line of text. Superscripting and subscripting are used often in mathematical and scientific equations.

  1. Type the text that you want to superscript or subscript.

  2. Select the text that you want to superscript or subscript.

  3. Click Format .

  4. Click Font .

    The Font dialog box appears.

  5. Click either the Superscript or Subscript option ( image from book changes to image from book ).

    Note 

    This example uses Superscript.

    image from book You can apply any of these formatting options to selected text.

  6. Click OK .

    image from book The selected text appears superscripted or subscripted.

  7. Click anywhere outside the selection to continue working.

Change Text Case

You can change the case of selected text instead of retyping it with a new case applied.

  1. Select the text that you want to assign a new case.

  2. Click Format .

  3. Click Change Case .

    The Change Case dialog box appears.

  4. Click the case you want to use. ( image from book changes to image from book ).

  5. Click OK .

  6. Click anywhere outside the selection to continue working.

Change Text Color

You can change the color of selected text to emphasize it. Color is effective when you view your document on-screen or print it using a color printer.

  1. Select the text that you want to change to a different color.

  2. Click image from book on the Font Color icon ( image from book ).

  3. Click the color you want to assign to the selected text.

  4. Click anywhere outside the selection to continue working.

Apply Highlighting to Text

You can highlight text in a document using color to draw attention to it. Highlighting is effective when you view the document on-screen or when you print it using a color printer.

  1. Select the text that you want to highlight.

  2. Click image from book on the Highlight icon ( image from book ).

  3. Click the color you want to assign to the selected text.

Copy Text Formatting

To save time, you can copy formatting that you apply to text in one portion of your document to another portion of your document.

  1. Select the text containing the formatting that you want to copy.

  2. Click the Format Painter icon ( image from book ).

    image from book The mouse pointer ( image from book ) appears as an icon ( image from book ) when you move it over your document.

  3. Select the text to which you want to assign formatting.

    image from book The newly selected text changes to the format used for the original selection.
