You can add an organization chart, or a cycle, radial, pyramid, Venn, or target diagram to your document to illustrate a concept.
Click in your document where you want the diagram to appear.
Click Insert.
Click Diagram.
The Diagram Gallery dialog box appears.
Click the type of diagram you want to add.
The graphic border surrounding the diagram will not print.
Click in a shape of the diagram where you want to add text.
A border surrounds that portion of the diagram.
Type the text you want to add.

Repeat steps 1 to 2 for each portion of the diagram.
When should I use the various types of diagrams?
Organization charts show how chart elements are related and ranked. Pyramid diagrams show how diagram elements build on each other. Cycle diagrams illustrate procedures with uninterrupted cycles. Venn diagrams identify areas of similarity between diagram elements. Radial diagrams show how diagram elements relate to a central element. Target diagrams show progression toward a goal.
I added a diagram, but I cannot see it. Why not?
Word displays diagrams only in Print Layout, Web Layout, or Reading Layout views. Click the Print Layout , the Web Layout (), or the Reading icon () to change views.
To keep your diagrams current and interesting, you can add or delete shapes and apply styles to diagrams.
Click the shape above or beside where you want to add a shape.
The new shape appears.
You can add text to the new shape by following the steps in the subsection “Add Text to the Diagram” on the previous page.
Click the diagram so that handles () on the diagram toolbar.
The Style Gallery dialog box appears and displays a list of available styles.
Click a style.
Word applies the selected style to the diagram.
How can I delete a shape?
Click an edge of the shape; handles () appear around the shape. Press the key to remove the selected shape from the diagram.
How can I remove a diagram style?
You cannot actually remove a diagram style; instead, you can simply use the default diagram style. Follow steps 1 to 4 in the subsection “Apply a Diagram Style” on this page, clicking Default in step 3.
