Summary

This chapter covered the topics you should consider when adding remote access for both fixed and mobile users to an enterprise network subscribing to a provider-provisioned VPN service.

The basics of configuring remote-access servers were examined. You saw how many enterprises leverage provider infrastructure by various L2TP mechanisms. This chapter also covered what is necessary for a provider to offer remote access as part of the VPN service, in terms of placing remote-access users in the VPN VRF.

Special consideration was given to IPsec access, in terms of both traditional configuration of static IPsec (including support for routing protocol traffic) and the use of DMVPN for on-demand IPsec connections. Options for designing Internet access to the VPN were defined, including the use of split tunneling within IPsec deployments.

Finally, the options chosen for implementation in the case study were explained.
