Chapter 10: Writing a New ScriptMDX Scripting

The world is a stage and most of us are desperately unrehearsed.
—Sean O'Casey, Playwright

Overview

We have already used some basic MDX script expressions to create calculated members in Chapter 8 and to define Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and Actions in Chapter 9. To complete these tasks, we used the basics of MDX scripting. You probably need to employ more complex MDX scripts to meet the needs of your organization. Thus, we have Chapter 10.

In this chapter, we work to get a handle on the power of MDX scripts. We see how they can be used to perform powerful analysis on your organization's information. In addition to data analysis, we also use MDX scripts to set up security restrictions on a cube.
