“Giving people a chance to be ‘visible’ for their work and accomplishments is the smartest thing a manager can do to motivate them.”

—Bits and Pieces, publication of The Economic Press

OUT OF THE WOODWORK

Here’s something to ponder: If a tree falls in the forest and no one is there to hear, does it make a sound? And what about this one: If an employee succeeds, and no one notices, will it ever happen again?

We don’t know (or care) about the tree, but the answer to the second question is clear. Employees don’t do well in a vacuum. When individuals repeatedly fail to be given credit for their accomplishments, their contributions gradually fade from view.

To ensure your employees’ best contributions don’t disappear, give them visibility. Put them out front. Make them the heroes. Give them credit.

Do it and we guarantee you’ll like what you see.
