About the Authors

Steven Gordon is an associate professor of information systems and technology at Babson College, USA. He is a co-author of the textbook Information Systems: A Management Approach. Dr. Gordon's research and consulting interests focus on two areas: organizational structure for the delivery of information technology services and e-commerce in the financial service industry. His research appears in the Communications of the ACM, Information & Management, Journal of Global Information Management, Information Systems Management, the International Journal of Service Industry Management, and other academic journals. He is a global associate editor of the Journal of Information Technology Cases and Applications and serves on the editorial review board for the Journal of End User Computing.

Anders Avdic was born in 1950 in Arboga, Sweden. His accomplishments include: seaman, boring-machine operator, and bachelor of systems science. He was a lecturer at Örebro University, Örebro, Sweden, 1985. Licentiate thesis 1995, Systems development using a Spreadsheet Program; doctoral thesis 1999, User and Developer, User Systems Development; senior lecturer, Örebro University, Örebro Sweden 1999. He is a member of the VITS research group Linköping, Sweden. Research interests include: end user computing, local systems, and knowledge management.

Yuan Gao is an assistant professor of information systems at the School of Information Systems at Ramapo College of New Jersey, USA. His research interests include systems design and consumer behavior in hypermedia, user acceptance of information technology, and e-commerce strategy and implementation. He earned an MBA and a PhD in Business from Zicklin School of Business, Baruch College-The City University of New York (CUNY).

Jeffrey Hsu is an assistant professor of information systems at the Silberman College of Business Administration, Fairleigh Dickinson University, USA. His research interests include human-computer interaction, e-commerce, groupware, distance learning, and data mining. He is the author of six books, including numerous papers and articles, and has professional experience in the IT industry. Hsu holds a Ph.D. in management information systems from Rutgers University, several master's degrees, and various professional certifications. Dr. Hsu is always interested in discussing opportunities for research and other scholarly activities, and can be reached via e-mail at <jeff@fdu.edu>.

Peter N. Hyland is a senior lecturer in the School of IT and Computer Science at the University of Wollongong, Australia, where he has worked for nine years. Peter is a member of the Decision Systems Laboratory and his research covers OLAP and emerging database technologies, HCI issues in the use of such databases and the development of Enterprise Information Portals, particularly in government agencies. Peter's current projects include the usability of electronic medical records, the development of an information architecture for the NSW State Emergency Service and the implementation of an Enterprise Information Portal by the NSW Police.

Chong Kim is professor and head of the division of management and marketing, Lewis College of Business, Marshall University, West Virginia, USA. He holds a BA in English from Yonsei University, MBA from Miami University, and PhD in Organizational Behavior from Ohio State University. Besides his 25-year career at Marshall, he also taught at Rider University. He published numerous articles in professional refereed journals and trade journals, and presented in national and international conferences. Dr. Kim is also a grand master instructor of Taekwondo, and he has been teaching the martial arts over 49 years.

Gwynne Larsen has co-authored several textbooks on DOS, Novell Netware, introduction to computers, the Internet, Microsoft Works, Microsoft Office and Word Perfect. From 1997 until 2002, Dr. Larsen has been listed in Marquis' Who's Who in the World, America, and in the West. She belongs to several international information systems organizations and serves on the editorial review board for two of those organizations. Dr. Larsen started teaching courses online in 1997 and now offers Introduction to Computers, Micro Based Software, and The World Wide Web. She received an MBA and PhD from the University of Denver.

Sang-Gun Lee is a PhD candidate in MIS at University of Nebraska-Lincoln, USA. He received a BA in business administration and an MBA from Sogang University. He also had studied doctoral work at Waseda University in Japan. His research interests are e-SCM, e-business model, computer security, and development of object-oriented systems. He has published some articles in the International Journal of Management Science, Korean Journal of Management Information System, and International Journal of Production Research (forthcoming), and presented more than 20 refereed papers in HICSS, AMCIS, IRMA, DSI, IDSI, APDSI and WDSI.

Zoonky Lee is an assistant professor of information systems at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, USA. He holds a PhD from the University of Southern California. He received a master's degree from the University of Michigan in Statistics and from Carnegie Mellon University in Social and Decision Sciences. His teaching interests include e-business, database design, systems analysis and design, and integrated enterprise systems. His research interests include designing IT infrastructures for organizational learning, electronic business, and IT support for knowledge workers. His dissertation was a finalist in the 1999 ICIS Dissertation Competition. He has published in various journals including Information and Management, Journal of Organizational Computing and Electronic Commerce, Electronic Markets, Journal of Information Technology, Communications of the ACM, Computer and Security and Journal of Business Strategies.

Susan K. Lippert is an assistant professor of management information systems in the Department of Management at Drexel University, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. Her current research interests include use and management of information technology. Her special interest is in the exploration of technology trust. Dr. Lippert received her PhD in MIS and an MBA in logistics, operations, and materials management from The George Washington University, Washington, D.C. She has taught undergraduate and graduate courses most recently as a visiting assistant professor at The George Washington University. Professor Lippert has published in the Journal of End User Computing, the Journal of Management Education, the Journal of Mathematics and Science Teaching and the Annals of Cases on Information Technology.

Purnendu Mandal is an associate professor of MIS in the Department of Management and Marketing, Lewis College of Business, Marshall University, West Virginia, USA. He is currently teaching courses on principles of MIS, database management, electronic commerce and strategic MIS. He taught in England, India, Singapore, Australia and the USA. He published over 100 refereed journal and conference papers. His works appeared in EJOR, IJPOM, IJQRM, Industrial Management and Data Systems, Intelligent Automation and Soft Computing: An International Journal, Logistics Information Management, etc. Dr. Mandal serves in a number of professional bodies and currently is in the editorial board of three international journals.

Kathryn Marold is a professor of computer information systems at Metropolitan State College of Denver, USA. She teaches courses in GUI programming, information systems, micro-based software, and multimedia. Dr. Marold helped develop several online Internet versions of her department's courses. She has co-authored several books on computer software. Dr. Marold currently teaches classes in the Visual Basic programming language, Computer Applications for Business, and Micro-based Software. Her first love is the classroom, but she also enjoys research and writing. For recreation and relaxation, she enjoys biking and hiking in the beautiful mountains of Colorado and in the surrounding Southwest.

Paul Mulligan is an assistant professor in the management division at Babson College, USA. He teaches cross-functional courses that integrate the study of information technology and operations in the core curriculum of Babson's MBA program. He also teaches graduate and undergraduate electives in service industry management. He is co-author of organizational change and operations strategy papers that appear in California Management Review and Long Range Planning. His most recent publications focus on the interaction between information technology and service delivery systems in financial services. Findings from this research appear in Information and Management, Strategic Finance and The International Journal of Service Industry Management. He is currently researching the impact of Internet technology on industry and organizational structure in the financial services.

Robin Munkvold was born in Harstad, Norway, in 1972. He moved to Steinkjer, Norway in 1986 and has been living there since. Munkvold was educated at Nord-Trøndelag University College (Norway) and Buskerud University College (Norway). He is now an assistant professor at Nord-Trøndelag University College (1998 - present) and teaches different subjects within information technology.

Jennifer Paige Nightingale received her bachelor's degree from the University of Pittsburgh and two MS degrees from Duquesne University in education and information systems management. She began her appointment on the business school faculty at Duquesne University, USA, upon receiving her second master's degree. She has over 13 years management and training experience and presently teaches courses in management information systems, serves as the business school's webmaster, and owns her own retail business. Victor Perotti is an assistant professor of management information systems at Rochester Institute of Technology, USA. Dr. Perotti has been honored for both his teaching and research. His research interests include the business application of complex systems and electronic commerce. He was awarded the Richard and Virginia Eisenhart Provost's Award for Excellence in Teaching. In 2000, he and co-author Dr. Tom Pray were awarded the "Best Paper Award" at the ABSEL conference for their work, Visual Modeling of Business Simulations. Currently he is working with colleague Dr. John Ettlie on a large sponsored research grant to examine Web-based new product development tools.

Anabela Sarmento is a professor at the Institute of Administration and Accountancy (ISCAP)/Polytechnic School of Porto (Portugal). She is also an invited researcher at the Algoritmi R & D Center, Information Systems Group, at the University of Minho (Portugal). She lectures courses related to business communication, information society, and interactive marketing. Her primary area of research is the impact of information systems on organizations, namely in the domain of communication, knowledge and organizational learning, as well as in the role of the context in the use of information systems. She is also interested in knowledge management and its relation with information systems. She received her doctorate in information systems from the University of Minho (Portugal) in 2002.

Martin Schwartz has a master of business and engineering with a focus on logistics, industrial information technology, manufacturing, marketing, and controlling. His diploma thesis was on "Executive Information Systems for Inventory Management." From 1996 to 1998, he was a research affiliate at the Department of Computer Science, Technical University Berlin, Germany, in the project "Enterprise Knowledge Medium," which was performed in cooperation with University St. Gallen. Research interests include: management information systems, customer relationship management, knowledge management, and philosophical foundations of information systems. His doctoral thesis was on "Design of Information Systems for Customer Relationship Management." Since 1998, Schwartz has been a consultant with Dr. Glinz & Partner; a Duesseldorf consulting company specialized in customer relationship management.

Dale H. Shao is an associate professor of management information systems at the Marshall University Elizabeth Lewis College of Business, USA. His primary interests of teaching and research are in the areas of management information systems, network security, enterprise resource planning, and supply chain management. He regularly presents scholarly research at national academic meetings and has an extensive research record. Currently, he is a member of many national academic organizations. He has extensive teaching experience in various areas of information systems and network planning.

Adrie Stander is currently a senior lecturer in information systems at the University of Cape Town, South Africa. He obtained his BSc degrees in Information Systems and Psychology from the University of South Africa and an MTech from Cape Technikon. He has over 20 years experience in the South African IT industry. He has a keen interest in the human side of IT and has done research in many related areas such as mobile usability, cultural aspects of user interfaces and gender issues in the IT industry. He has spoken at conferences in Africa, Europe and the USA.

Rawiwan Tenissara obtained a master's degree in applied statistics and computer science, and completed a PhD in instructional systems technology at Indiana University Bloomington. She currently is a lecturer at Information Systems Education Center, National Institute Development Administration, Bangkok, Thailand. Her research interests are human computer interaction, instructional and interface design, and database design.

Nata van der Merwe is currently a lecturer in the Department of Information Systems at the University of Cape Town, South Africa. She has qualifications in linguistics, education and information technology, with her highest qualification being an MA from the University of Stellenbosch, South Africa. Nata has 15 years experience in the IT industry and IT-related academic environments. She is currently leading a study looking at issues around the retention of women in the IT industry.

Stu (Wes) Westin is a professor of information systems at the University of Rhode Island, USA. He has published articles in a variety of national and international academic journals, including MIS Quarterly, Journal of Database Management, Information & Management, Behaviour & Information Technology, and Telematics and Informatics. Dr. Westin is also associate editor of the Journal of End User Computing, and a contributing author to several academic books on computers and information technologies. In addition, he has developed numerous custom software systems for research and educational applications. He has lectured in the US and in Europe on the topics of information systems and information technology

Boris Wyssusek has a master's degree in computer science and business administration from Technical University Berlin, Germany, with a focus on systems analysis, enterprise information systems, organization theory, and marketing of innovations. His diploma thesis was on Case-based Reasoning (computer science) and Organizational Epistemology (business administration). From 1997 to 2002, he has been a research affiliate and PhD student at the Department of Computer Science, Technical University Berlin, with a doctoral thesis on "Methodological Aspects of Organizational Modeling." Research interests include: organizational modeling, participative systems analysis, knowledge management, and philosophical foundations of information systems.

Sangjin Yoo is a professor of MIS at Keimyung University in Daegu, Korea. He received a PhD in MIS from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Before taking his current position, he was an assistant professor of MIS at Bowling Green State University in Ohio, USA. He has published more than 50 papers in national and international journals including California Management Review, Long Range Planning, Organizational Dynamics, Journal of MIS Research, and Korean Management Science Review.
