This handheld device should also offer handwriting recognition capabilities, secure logon to the company network, and the capability to encrypt sensitive data. What type of device should you purchase and why?

The correct answer is a Tablet PC. Tablet PCs offer all these things plus the necessary security components. Of all the devices outlined in this chapter, only the Tablet PC offers the capability to encrypt sensitive data and allow for secure network logons.

Using Device Manager, answer the following questions about your own computer.

1.	What is the issue date and version of the drivers used for your mouse?
2.	Which of the following types of ports does your computer have installed: serial, parallel, FireWire, USB. How are these ports listed in Device Manager?
3.	How is your printer port configured to manage interrupts?

1.	In Device Manager, expand Mice And Other Pointing Devices, right-click the mouse, and select Properties. Look for the information on the Driver tab.
2.	Serial and parallel ports are both listed under the Ports (COM & LPT) category. Serial ports are listed as communications ports, and parallel ports are listed as printer ports. FireWire ports have their own top-level category in Device Manager. Depending on your device, the ports may be listed as FireWire Controllers or as IEEE 1394 Bus Host Controllers. USB ports are listed as Universal Serial Bus Controllers.
3.	In Device Manager, expand Ports (COM & LPT), right-click Printer Port (LPT1), and select Properties. Look for the information on the Port Settings tab in the Filter Resource Method section.
