Summary

In this chapter, you learned that Exchange Server 2003 improves upon the site concept in Exchange Server 5.5 by introducing routing groups and link state information. SMTP, which is now the default protocol for message transfer, is more tolerant of higher latency and lower bandwidths than an RPC connection, and hence has several advantages, which were outlined in this chapter. You also saw how link state information works after certain kinds of failures. The next chapter introduces you to the Active Directory Connector and provides an overview of how Exchange Server 2003 integrates with Microsoft Windows 2000 and Microsoft Internet Information Services.
