Working with Hyperlinks

In Chapter 12, "Letting Action Settings Work for You," you learned that you can create Web page like links on a PowerPoint slide. You also learned that you can create invisible links that look better than Web-style links in PowerPoint presentations. However, visible hyperlinks have a distinct advantage in Web-based presentations because viewers are conditioned to click such links.

You should also be aware that creating hyperlinks intended for a Web presentation can present these difficulties:

• If you create links to files on your local computer, those links might not work when you move the presentation to a Web server. It's safer to use links only to Web pages or to graphic or multimedia files found in the same folder as the presentation. They can then be transferred to the Web server along with the presentation.

• If you create a link to another location entirely for example, to another Web site viewers might not know how to return to your slide show, and thus you lose them after they click the link. One way to help is to place information near the link: "Clicking this link takes you to another Web site. Click your browser's Back button to return to this presentation."
