About gnuplot

gnuplot was originally designed and developed by Colin Kelley and Thomas Williams in 1986 for plotting functions and datafiles on a variety of terminals. From 1988 to 1989, an alternative version called GnuTex ,which supported LaTex was implemented. Since then, gnuplot has been capable of producing LaTex code. Tex is a text-based layout software, which was originally written by Donald E. Knuth, one of the most famous computer scientists in history. Leslie Lamport finally developed a macro package for Tex that is now known as LaTex. With the help of gnuplot and LaTex, you can develop high-quality publications . These days, many famous publishing houses rely on LaTex to produce attractive books efficiently .

In 1989 and 1990, GnuTex and some other implementations of gnuplot were merged into a new release called GNUPLOT 2.0.

Since then, a lot of additional features have been implemented and added to gnuplot, which is now one of the most mature and stable programs provided by the Open Source community. You can use gnuplot in combination with LaTex (the most stable software) to build extremely powerful and stable applications.

gnuplot is included in most Linux distributions. If gnuplot is not installed on your system, check out http://www.gnuplot.org/ to download the sources.
