Fax Servers


Though Exchange Server 2007 provides good integration for inbound faxing with the Unified Messaging server role, you may have other needs, such as outbound faxing. The cost to implement a full unified messaging solution may also be too high for your organization. Generally, fax servers enable users to send and receive faxes through a central server instead of their own workstations or traditional fax machines. Fax servers that integrate with Exchange Server add a new address type for faxing. To send a message to an e-mail user, you select the user's e-mail address from an Exchange address book. To send a message to a fax user, you select the fax address from an Exchange address book.

  • FACSys Fax Connector 2000 FACSys Fax Connector 2000 operates pretty much like any other connector on an Exchange server, but it sends faxes. The product is managed right inside Exchange System Manager. Contact: FACSys (www.facsys.com)

  • FAXmaker for Exchange FAXmaker for Exchange runs as a Windows service and allows faxes and GSM phone service SMS messages to be sent from an Outlook client with seamless Exchange Server integration. It includes call cost accounting. Contact: GFI (www.gfi.com)

  • DM Fax Server DM Fax Server installs and works as a Windows service. It can function as a high-traffic fax server and it can support a range of e-document distribution functions, such as automated faxback. Contact: IMECOM Group (www.imecominc.com)

  • Genifax Genifax is a sophisticated fax server that works with a wide range of high-end messaging platforms, including Lotus Notes and Exchange Server. Omtool, the product's manufacturer, specializes in the legal and health care industries. Genifax can be expanded to include e-document distribution functionality. Contact: Omtool (www.omtool.com)

  • MsXfax XP for Exchange MsXfax XP for Exchange can be installed on an Exchange or Windows server. It integrates with Active Directory without modifying the schema. Contact: BSN Group (www.bnsgroup.com.au)
