Take 8

NOTE

Track 6: Strings Double Bass

Sequence Parameters box: Qua 1/8 note, Dynamics 75%.

Instrument Parameter box: Cha 6, Prg 48, Transpose 12

Transport Bar: (L) 9.1.1 (R) 17.1.1

Have a look at the double bass part on the score. You have probably noticed that it looks identical to the cello part above it. Well it is, but with one exception. The double bass sounds an octave lower than it is written. We now have a choice. We either record the bass part in the usual way or copy the cello sequence to Track 7 and transpose it down one octave.

Although it takes a little longer, I prefer the first option. Why? Because the velocities and note lengths will be different and this adds to the overall realism of the sequence. Two sequences with identical data, playing together, often sound unpleasant!

Follow these steps:

  1. Record the double bass between the Locators (Figures P4.26 and P4.27). Ensure that transposition is set to 12 in the Instrument Parameter box. Clean up any overlaps.
