If you can't play it, then slow it down. Why struggle? Computers don't make everything in life easy (the opposite is often the case) but they certainly help us dodgy piano players! However, there is a drawback to playing at a slow tempo, and that's accuracy of timing. Fortunately, quantization comes to the rescue if that's a problem. More on this in a moment.
Let's suppose you are recording a piece with Logic at 120 bpm (beats per minute) and you come up against a passage that you can't play at that speed.
Scroll the tempo on the Transport bar to something more comfortable, 90 bpm maybe (Figure 1.1).
Record the tricky bit.
When you're done, scroll the tempo back to 120 bpm (Figure 1.2).
NOTE
To avoid accidental recording of tempo changes, ensure that 'Allow Tempo Change Recording' in 'Recording Options' is unchecked [Options > Settings > Recording Options...] ( Figure 1.3 ).
NOTE
A Cycle, once set up, can be dragged around on the Bar Ruler with the mouse.
