Recipe 11.13. Using the Mailbox Reconnect UtilityProblemYou have orphaned mailboxes in your Exchange 2000 organization and wish to connect them with their users. SolutionUsing a graphical user interface
Once all of the orphaned mailboxes have corresponding accounts, you can run the Mailbox Reconnect tool to connect mailboxes to their accounts.
DiscussionIn Exchange versions up to 5.5 the DS/IS Consistency Adjuster was used to reconcile differences between the Exchange Directory and Exchange mailboxes. With AD and Exchange 2000, the mbconn.exe mailbox reconnecting tool was introduced to accomplish the same task with the integrated directory. The mailbox reconnect tool has two major tasks: first, it can examine the Exchange mailbox store and find unmatched mailboxes, and export them to an LDIF-compliant file for import into AD; and second, it can resolve these mailboxes with their user accounts in bulk. As with all Exchange utilities, you should use the version included on the latest Service Pack CD. Since Exchange Server 2003 includes the Mailbox Recovery Center within Exchange System Manager, this tool is really only necessary with Exchange 2000.
