ProblemThe installation or setup program on a CD-ROM may not automatically run when inserted into a CD-ROM or the DVD-ROM drive. SolutionLog on to Windows XP as either a power user or an administrator. Check the properties of the CD-ROM drive to ensure autorun/autoplay is enabled with the following steps:
DiscussionWhen a CD-ROM is detected and autorun/autoplay is enabled, Windows XP is notified that a new volume is available and the drive is then checked for the presence of an AUTORUN.INF file in the root directory of the CD-ROM. Only users who are logged on to Windows XP with power user or administrator rights are allowed to install software. If you have only user-level rights, you will be prompted with an "Install Program as other user" message when the CD-ROM autorun is processed. This behavior is by design or may be controlled by user or group policies by your system administrator. See Alsohttp://www.johncardinal.com/ss/seccd.htm |
