Chapter 16: Setting Up and Delivering Slide Shows

Overview

In this chapter you will learn to:

  • Take a presentation on the road.

  • Deliver a slide show.

  • Customize a slide show.

  • Add slide timings.

  • Use Microsoft Producer to set up an online broadcast.

The goal of all the effort involved in creating a presentation is to be able to effectively deliver it to a specific audience. In Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2003, you can deliver a presentation as an electronic slide show in Slide Show view. In this view, instead of the slide appearing in a presentation window within the PowerPoint program window, the slide occupies the entire screen.

When you deliver an electronic slide show you navigate through the slides by clicking the mouse button. You can move forward and backward one slide at a time, and you can jump to specific slides as the needs of your audience dictate . You can hide individual slides, or if you know that you will be giving variations of the same presentation to several different audiences, you can hide sets of slides as separate presentations that you show only if appropriate. You can rehearse a presentation and add timings to slides so that you can pace your presentation. You can also use slide timings to set up a slide show to run unattended, either just once or continuously.

If your computer is on a network or if you have access to the Internet, you cangive a slide show on any other computer on the network by using PowerPoint 2003 s online broadcasting feature. You can also set up and deliver an online presentation via Microsoft NetMeeting. PowerPoint also includes features to help you deliver a presentation on the road.

In this chapter, you ll first use the Package for CD feature to package a presentation so that everything is available when you move it to another computer. Then you ll explore various navigation tools as you deliver a presentation. You ll see how to take notes, create custom and self-running presentations, and broadcast a presentation over a network.
