This chapter provided a whirlwind tour of the .NET Framework offering from Microsoft. In particular it looked at the two major aspects of the frameworkthe Common Language Runtime (CLR) and the .NET Framework class library. Technologies and methodologies to allow interoperability with native system components or components running on Java application servers were also discussed. These included
Products such as JNBridge, which allows Java components to interface with .NET services over remoting; Visual MainWin for Java EE, which allows .NET code to be compiled to run on Java platforms; and Java components directly called from within .NET were introduced. At this point interoperability as a whole (Introduction), Java technologies (Chapter 1, "Java EE Platform Interoperability Essentials"), and .NET technologies (Chapter 2, ".NET Platform Interoperability Essentials") have all been introduced. The next section goes into much more depth and explores synchronous integration solutions. |
