Setting Title Position

Some effects, such as Bounce In To Center, feature a control for placing text on the screen or specifying the direction in which the text animates.

To set title position:

  1. Click the title you wish to use.

  2. Click an arrow on the directional controller to the left of the title list (Figure 12.15).

Figure 12.15. The directional controller on some title effects determines which way the words move onto the screen.

graphics/tick.gif Tips

  • The Music Video title gives you the option of running text along the left or right sides of the screen. But it's also a text block title, which means you can type line breaks (using Return or Enter). If you put the two features together, you can position text in the upper-left or upper-right corners of the screen (Figure 12.16).

Figure 12.16. Music Video gives you a little more control over text positioning because it's a block title.

  • All sorts of controls can appear in the Titles pane, as you'll discover if you install third-party plug-ins. The Bounce Across title, new in iMovie 3, adds a control for setting the amount of "waviness" applied to the text (Figure 12.17).

Figure 12.17. A few titles include other controls for effects, such as this Wave setting in Bounce Across.
