Chapter 7. Installation And Configuration
The following prerequisites must be met before installing SharePoint Portal Server:
Windows 2000 Hotfix (Pre-SP2) cannot be installed on the computer. If it is installed, remove it before installing SharePoint Portal Server. See Q269862.
The Windows Remote Registry service must be running.
Ensure that W3SVC/1 (Default Web Site in IIS) is started.
SharePoint Portal Server setup performs a test to warn of invalid IIS settings. The TCP port in W3SVC/1 must be set to 80 with IP Address (All unassigned ). If multiple entries have been configured in Advanced Settings, setup only checks the first entry. Other configurations may be acceptable, as long as localhost on port 80 is a valid way to connect to W3SVC/1 on the computer.
CAUTION
Do not change the port to an alternative HTTP port (such as 8000 or 8080) after installation. Ensure that port 80 is specified and remains as the primary port for the server.
(IIS) 5.0 must be installed and the service must be running.
Ensure SMTP Service is installed and running.
