Acknowledgements

Writing acknowledgements is a fun part of any book. It's my opportunity to thank everyone who has helped make this book possible.

First, I want to thank the people at Que Publishing, specifically acquisitions editor Stephanie McComb, for giving me the opportunity to write this book. This is my first book, and while it was rather scary, it was also a wonderfully exciting challenge. My development editor, Laura Norman, answered every one of my numerous questions promptly and completely. Her insight, comments, questions, and patience helped ensure that the information you're about to read is clear, concise, and logically organized. I would also like to thank everyone else who had a hand in this book. Project editor Tonya Simpson managed the process from copy editing to final publication. She was always available to answer questions quickly and with a sense of humor. My copy editor, Mike Henry, ensured all the text flowed cleanly. Tonya Fenimore, the proofreader, made sure all of my sentences made sense, as sometimes my typing gets a little ahead of my thinking. This book would not have been possible without my technical editor, Vince Averello. I've known Vince for three years now, and I wouldn't have wanted anyone else as my technical editor. He double-checked all my technical instructions to ensure that you, the readers, would be able to follow them completely.

Vince is one of a larger group of people who have shaped my life and my Outlook career. I am one of a ribald group of people known as the Outlook MVPs. Microsoft grants Most Valued Professional status to those individuals who consistently offer high-quality technical support to users in the Microsoft newsgroups. Several of the MVPs have taken me under their wings over the years and helped me get to where I am today. I specifically want to thank Diane Poremsky, Ken Slovak, Randy Byrne, and Sue Mosher. Your technical advice, friendship, and recommendations have been invaluable over the years. I'm proud to know all the Outlook MVPs and to count myself as one of them.

I could not have written this book without the help of my contributing author, Diane Poremsky. Although I use Outlook heavily every day, there are several features that I use only occasionally. Diane assisted by contributing the Journal, Notes, LDAP, and Command Bar chapters.

There are three individuals with Microsoft I need to thank. Ronna Pinkerton is the Outlook Beta Lead. She has provided technical assistance and has always been able to find the right person to answer any questions I've had. Mike Butler, program manager for Business Contact Manager, answered all my emails about this new product. Without his help, the BCM chapter would not be nearly as complete. Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, I'd like to thank Jensen Harris. As lead program manager for Outlook, Jensen's insight into the product has been wonderful. He's even volunteered to review sections of this book on his own time. The Outlook MVPs consider Jensen and Ronna part of our family. Jensen is leaving the Outlook team and moving to the Office team, and we will all miss him.

Probably most importantly, I want to thank my family. My husband, Rob, had to put up with many late nights spent at the kitchen table trying to complete my chapters. There were many weekends and several holidays that he spent largely by himself as I worked on this book. He provided much-needed shoulder massages and cooked dinners when I was too busy to even think about eating. I also want to thank my parents for always believing in me and telling me that I could do anything I wanted in life. You gave me the confidence I needed to undertake this adventure.

There are a few other people I want to mention, as I would not be the person I am today without them. Over the past five years, David Zellman has made working a sometimes frustrating, but always challenging job, bearable. Thank you for your advice, friendship, and leadership. I also want to thank two of my friends in particular, Suzan and Maureen. You've helped me through bad times and celebrated with me in good times. Thank you for being true friends.

Finally, I want to thank you, the reader. I hope this book answers all your Outlook questions and helps you understand and use this powerful program.
