Newsgroups

The Internet is a great resource for searching. However, Web sites are often updated infrequently, and sometimes you just want a real person to answer your questions. Microsoft maintains a set of newsgroups, online support communities frequented by Microsoft MVPs, program experts, and Microsoft Support Professionals. You can access newsgroups through a companion program to Outlook, the news-only version of Outlook Express, or through another third-party newsreader. You can even access the newsgroups online at http://support.microsoft.com/newsgroups/. There are a number of newsgroups for Outlook:

  • microsoft.public.outlook.calendaring

  • microsoft.public.outlook.contacts

  • microsoft.public.outlook.fax

  • microsoft.public.outlook.general

  • microsoft.public.outlook.installation

  • microsoft.public.outlook.interop

  • microsoft.public.outlook.printing

  • microsoft.public.outlook.program.addins

  • microsoft.public.outlook.program.forms

  • microsoft.public.outlook.program.vba

  • microsoft.public.outlook.thirdpartyutil

  • microsoft.public.outlook.usage

When you access these newsgroups through a newsreader or a Web interface and post your question, you'll likely receive a fairly quick response. Be sure to post all relevant information about your particular question or problem. It's always a good idea to include your operating system version, version of Outlook, type of mail account, and patches applied to either the operating system or Outlook. Including this information helps Microsoft support personnel and Outlook MVPs answer your questions faster and more completely.
