Defining Calendar Labels

The use of Labels to further categorize calendar items was introduced in Outlook 2002. Every appointment, meeting, and event in your Outlook calendar can be assigned a label. These labels are color coded to help you visually identify the types of items on your calendar. You can edit each label title to suit your needs. To edit your labels, click Edit, Label, Edit Labels to display Figure 12.34.

Figure 12.34. The Edit Calendar Labels dialog box enables you to customize the title of each label.

You can edit each label title, but not the label color. If you have items already using labels and you change the label title, the items will be updated to reflect the new label title. The label color of these items will remain the same, even if you switch two label titles. Click OK to save your changes to your label titles.

Unfortunately, labels reside only on your local machine. They cannot be transferred to another user, and any appointments, meetings, or events you assign a label to will not retain that label if you send them to another user. Every user must define his own labels. If you label an event with the Birthday label and send the event to another user, she won't see any label associated with the appointment.
