The combination of XML and ASP.NET yields an amazingly broad range of possibilities. .NET heavily utilizes XML, as you will see throughout this book ( especially in Chapter 7, "ASP.NET Extensibility with XML"). Complex web pages can be designed to present a rich user experience with minimal amounts of code by using XML data from various sources. XSLT transformations can be applied to XML data to provide HTML, WML, or a host of other formats. XML Schemas can validate XML data that is shared between organizations, and XML Web Services provide an XML-based messaging system between organizations.
XML is about data, and ASP.NET is about the manipulation and presentation of data.
