I Thought This Was an XML Book

The advent of WAP is a dream come true for consumers wanting information at their fingertips. However, it's a nightmare for website developers. Not only must they maintain multiple sets of web pages for different web browsers, they now have to add a new set of documents to serve information to WAP users. To make matters worse , different WAP devices support different subsets of the WAP standards.

One of the ways for website developers to approach the problem is to maintain two main sets of pages: XHTML Basic and WML for WAP-based users.

However, this increases source code, maintenance, and means maintaining multiple UIs for essentially the same content.

What can be done about this? You can make use of XML and XSLT. The last half of this chapter shows you how to do just that.

The source code shown in this chapter is for both XHTML and WML; however, only the XHTML code is walked through with the differences between the codes highlighted.
