About the Authors

The authors have known each other since 1988 and have worked closely together on numerous projects reflecting shared personal and professional interests.

James S. Evans is a professor at Lawrence University (Appleton, Wisconsin), where he also serves as Director of Information Technology Planning. He has taught laboratory computing, assembly language, computer architecture, computer hardware organization, and operating systems. He and technology leaders from other private and public universities in Wisconsin co-founded the WiscNet association, which subsequently grew to provide Internet connectivity and services to more than 500 educational and governmental units in the state. Dr. Evans holds degrees in chemistry from Bates College and Princeton University, and has been an academic visitor at the Universities of Oregon, Oxford (UK), and Birmingham (UK). He maintains a research collaboration with Dr. B.A. Levine, School of Biosciences, University of Birmingham.

Gregory L. Trimper is the principal of viika (Appleton, Wisconsin), a company that offers consulting and technology services to businesses ranging from the very small to the multinational. He has had extensive hardware, networking, and software development experience with Intel-based, Macintosh, and Unix systems in highly networked educational, commercial, manufacturing, and governmental organizations. Mr. Trimper holds a degree in computer science from Lawrence University and pursues further studies at the University of Wisconsin.
