Integrating FreeHand Files with Dreamweaver MX

Dreamweaver MX   Problems or errors in the HTML output can be handled more efficiently in Dreamweaver, because Dreamweaver is a Web page development program; whereas FreeHand is an illustration program.

In the HTML Output window, you have the option of choosing Dreamweaver MX as the browser or HTML editor to view the final output. I suggest this option. After all, you have arguably the strongest Web page development program right there on your machine — why not use it? Dreamweaver offers everything you could want to fine-tune your pages. I suggest that you do another Publish to HTML using Dreamweaver MX as the editor. First, export the pages using tables for positioning; then publish the site again using layers. After each export, examine the site in Dreamweaver. You'll notice some features that are good, and others that are bad. For instance, using tables chops the page into four or five chunks, and all the button/link work is useless. However, layers bring everything to the page as advertised. If you export and open the pages only in a browser, you'd only see that things didn't work — not why.

Macromedia originally called FreeHand a "Web development tool." As such, FreeHand should be used as a design platform and test bed for HTML output in general — unless you're doing an extremely simple page layout.
