Overview

Building a framed Web site is a complex and sometimes controversial issue. Although frames offer the advantage of displaying more than just one page at a time, the disadvantages of using frames are legendary. You wouldn't need to look far to find the Top Ten list of things not to do when building a site, which includes the use of frames. But, used appropriately, a framed site can provide a means to navigate and display content in a way that no other option provides.

Dreamweaver makes building a framed site fairly easy. When you want navigation that remains fixed and present at all times, using frames is the way to go. Despite issues with bookmarking and printing site pages, framed sites are still in demand. In this chapter, you learn to use Dreamweaver's frames features to build simple, complex framed layouts and explore how targeting is the key to successful navigation for framed sites.
