Using the Flash MX Interface

 < Day Day Up >

When you first open Flash you'll notice the panel groups. In Windows they are docked to the right of the interface. On a Mac they float as a group on the right. Windows users can undock the panels if they like. Both platforms enable you to rearrange the grouping of panels and determine which panels are open in the interface by opening the various panel Options pop-up menus and choosing where to move them or to close them. To undock a panel or panel group, drag it by its gripper and rearrange. Drag back to the panel area until you see a highlighted line and release the mouse button to dock a panel. Panels are also accessible by using keyboard shortcuts. After you arrange the panels the way you want them, you can save the configuration by choosing Window ® Save Panel Layout. Figure 24-1 shows the Flash MX interface.

Note

Windows has two toolbars available that the Mac doesn't: the Main toolbar, which contains icons for commonly used toolbox items and panel options, and the status bar, which provides a description of the selected tool. These are off by default because many of the items are redundant. But the tool descriptions and icons may be helpful to new users.
