To quickly extend your animation, you already know to use F5 (Insert Frame). Normally, you select a frame on the Timeline on the layer you wish to extend and then press F5 until satisfied. If you have several layers, you may want to save yourself some time by not having to repeat the process for every layer.

Move the Timeline marker (the red line) to a certain area of your Timeline where you want to add frames for all layers and press ESC to unselect any selected frames. Now, pressing F5 will add frames for every layer on the Timeline at that location. Let's just say that this can save a lot of time if you have thirty or forty layers like I've seen in some people's Timelines.
