My File is All Growed Up

[ LiB ]

Perhaps you've noticed that after working on a single file for a number of hours and constantly saving your changes using CTRL-S (Save), your FLA file is growing in size. This growth continues even if you just cleared tons of items out of the Library. The reason for this is that, in Flash, each time you save a file over itself, any changes are appended to the file, but the file isn't technically overwritten. This means the file size will continue to grow. In the past, you would have to use Save As and save a copy of the file as a new file to get the file size down again. Can you say annoying? Flash MX 2004 solves the problem by letting you choose "Save and Compact" under the File menu. This compacts the FLA file and saves over itself at the same time, giving you a smaller file size while storing any changes you may have made. I'm still not sure why this isn't the default behavior, but oh well.
