Three different types of channel OADM interface cards exist for the 15454 MSTP: the four-channel OADM filter, the two-channel OADM filter (AD-2C-xx.x), and the one-channel OADM filter (AD-1C.xx.x). Each provides add/drop access to adjacent ITU-T wavelength channels, covering channels on the 100 GHz or the 50 GHz grid. The MSTP 32-channel C-band spectrum can be add/dropped using 8 different four-channel OADM filters, 16 separate two-channel OADM filters, or 32 discreet one-channel OADM filters. The units operate bidirectionally, with channels being multiplexed and demultiplexed using a passive cascade of interferential filters. Each of the optical input ports on the channel OADM units is equipped with an automatic VOA. Express, pass-through ports also use automatic VOAs. Wavelength channels are accessed on the channel OADM units using LC-PC-II connectors on the front faceplate. The channel OADM units are single-slotted interface cards. They can be inserted in the ONS 15454 shelf assembly Slots 16 or 1217. Figure 9-18 shows the faceplate layout of the AD-1C-xx.x, AD-2C-xx.x, and AD-4C-xx.x cards. Figure 9-18. Table 9-6 summarizes the insertion loss characteristics for each of the OADM units. Each of the loss figures assumes minimum VOA attenuation.
