The four-band OADM filter (AD-4B-xx.x) provides add/drop access to four bands of ITU-T wavelength channels (four each), covering channels on the 100 GHz or the 50 GHz grid. Each channel band consists of four channels. Thus, two AD-4B-xx.x interface units are available to cover the MSTP 32-channel C-band spectrum. The unit operates bidirectionally, with channels being multiplexed/demultiplexed using a passive cascade of interferential filters. Wavelength add/drop operates along a single East/West path, allowing for asymmetrical channel use. Table 9-4 summarizes the product numbers and channel assignments for the two AD-4B-xx.x product codes.
Each of the four optical band input ports on the AD-4B-xx.x is equipped with an automatic VOA. Express, pass-through ports also use automatic VOAs. The maximum insertion loss for each input channel band, assuming the minimum VOA attenuation, is 3.5 dB on input and 4.5 dB on output. Pass-through insertion loss is 4.8 dB at minimum VOA attenuation. Wavelength channels are accessed on the AD-4B-xx.x card using eight LC-PC-II connectors on the front faceplate. The AD-4B-xx.xx card is a single-slotted interface card. It can be inserted in the ONS 15454 shelf assembly Slots 16 or 1217. Figure 9-16 shows the faceplate layout of the AD-4B-xx.x card.
