Section 5: Voice

Q: Do you want me to use connection PLAR so I don't dial any numbers?

A: No, you should be able to pick up one of the phones and have a connection through to the other without it ringing first.

Q: So is this a permanent connection?

A: It is a little more complicated than that, but yes.

Q: If other phones can connect to the same conversation, do I need to configure some form of Conference Bridge somewhere in the network?

A: No, configured correctly you should be able to add another router in the network with voice connectivity and have that phone dedicated for the group call.

Q: So these phones are then limited to only conversations between the group and then they lose the option to dial any other numbers?

A: Yes.

Q: I have thought of a way of achieving this, but it is with multicast and this is a voice question; is that acceptable?

A: Yes, this is how Hoot and Holler works.

Q: So if I manage to get the phones to multicast their IP traffic to each other I have answered the question correctly?

A: Yes.

Q: Do you want me to configure a routemap to assign IP precedence matching on my voice traffic and change the precedence as it leaves the router?

A: A much easier method exists of achieving this.

Q: Do you want voice available if the Frame Relay network fails?

A: The ISDN question does not state that voice is required should the network fail.
