Logging into the GUI

When the system starts or when no one is logged in, the GUI presents a login window while waiting for someone to log in. Different versions of OpenVMS may present slightly different versions of this screen with differing corporate logos, etc., but each of them works essentially the same way.

Note

All of the following information may be displayed on the screen by clicking the Help button on the login screen.

The system begins by asking for your username. Type your username and press ENTER (or click OK). The system then asks for your password. Type your password and press ENTER (or click OK). Just as with the terminal interface, your password will not be displayed. Unlike the terminal interface, the password prompt will not time out in 20 seconds.

Once your password is entered, your session begins. If an error occurs (such as a mistyped password), a dialog box will display the cause of the error. After reading the message, click OK to start again.

If you make a mistake or decide not to log in, click Start Over.
