Exiting EDT

When exiting the EDT editor, you may choose to save your file, save it under a name different from its original name (the original file is preserved), or exit without saving changes.

To exit EDT, the first step is to enter line mode. To enter line mode, press CTRL/Z. The line mode prompt (*) will be presented at the bottom of the screen.

To save the file under the name you specified at the beginning of the session, enter the command EXIT. A new version of the file will be saved, and any previous versions will also be preserved, according to your version-limit settings.

If you wish to save the file under a different name, use EXIT filename, where filename is the new name. If you save the file under a new name, the original file will also be preserved, unmodified, under its original name.

To exit the EDT editor without saving your changes, use the QUIT command.

You may add the qualifier /SAVE to either EXIT or QUIT, which preserves the journal file. When used with QUIT, it allows you to reapply your changes later, using EDIT /EDT/RECOVER.
