The EDT Journal File

While you are editing a file, EDT automatically keeps a log of all modifications you make to the file. Every few seconds, your most recent keystrokes are saved to the journal file. In the event of a network problem, system failure, power failure, or some other event that disrupts the system, the journal file is saved. Later, you may use the EDIT/EDT/RECOVER command to reload the original file and apply all of your changes to it. The journal file is given the same name as your original file, but with the extension .JOU. So, if you edit your LOGIN.COM file, the journal file will be called LOGIN.JOU. When you successfully save your file, the journal is automatically deleted unless you exit EDT with the /SAVE option.
