Chapter 34. A Sleeping Dragon

The crash dump we are about to explore was submitted to us by a customer who was experiencing unexplained system hangs on his Sun SPARCcenter 2000, what we at Sun often affectionately refer to as a "Dragon."

The history of this particular Dragon was commendably blemish free. Installation went without a hitch, bringing it on line into production mode went quite smoothly, and aside from a few tuning issues, no trouble had been reported . Things were going well, until

new software was brought on line and the Dragon started experiencing hangs.

Since this is a sun4d system running Solaris 2.3, we will use another Dragon running the same OS to do our analysis. As the customer asked to not have his company name used in this book, nor the name of the third party software, we will be modifying some of the output to comply with his wishes.
