Windows Server 2003 evolved from Windows NT. The first version of NT to be released was NT 3.1, in July 1993. NT 3.5 followed in September 1994, and NT 4 was released in July 1996. The current release of Microsoft's business class workstation and server operating systems is called Windows Server 2003.
