Windows Server 2003 evolved from Windows NT. The first version of NT to be released was NT 3.1, in July 1993. NT 3.5 followed in September 1994, and NT 4 was released in July 1996. The current release of Microsoft's business class workstation and server operating systems is called Windows Server 2003. This chapter covers each version of NT, Windows 2000, and Windows Server 2003 and the differences between them.
