To create a text annotation anywhere on a chart-for example, to provide source information for your chart data or to call attention to a particular chart feature-create a text box on the chart. Click the Layout tab, click Text Box in the Insert group, and then drag a rectangle on the chart. An insertion point will appear in the upper-left corner of the rectangle. Type or paste the text annotation, and then size and position the rectangle as needed.
For more information about using text boxes, see "Working with Text Boxes," page 352.
Note | In earlier versions of Excel, you could create a text annotation on a chart by selecting any part of the chart and typing. Whatever you typed would appear in a text box, and you could size and position the text box as soon as you finished typing. This feature has been "deprecated" in Excel 2007, presumably because usability studies found that users were creating text annotations accidentally. |
