Visual Subterfuge

To get your stuff into most stores, you will need a barcode. You can pay a service bureau 15 to 50 bucks to generate one for you or do it yourself in Quark with an extension called "Azalea" which you can, um, find on the Internet. The barcode has the retail price, publisher, and (with a book) ISBN number encoded for the scanner to read.

I've included on the CD two images I created; one is BarCodeppBoy.tiff, and the reversal is ppBoy Reverse.tiff. Either of these will work with the included DVD or VHS or CD Quark templates to have a guy peeing on your barcode on the product. This is my protest, because you can't really buy or sell anything these days without this Mark of the Digital Beast. So I like to pee on it. I did this on "D.I.Y. or Die."

Feel free to use with credit.

Make Sure

that you make stuff look good . Just because you're low budget doesn't mean it has to look like it. With computers, you can look as great as you like; quality is only limited by imagination .

Figure 13.12 is a cool promo photo/piece of art that my friend Beau took back in the day. The day being a fine fall day in 1987.

This was actually taken with a 35 mm film camera, but scanned and all that stuff on a computer.
