Cheap Tickets

Sometimes, tours will take you to other countries . Or it will make more sense to fly to a location, rent equipment, and drive from there.

STA Travel (www.statravel.com) sells student tickets very cheap, especially overseas. And they sell you the student I.D. for 20 bucks online. And they don't check. And you'll need to enter a 12-digit student ID number. And the student can be of any age, up to 99. And you are a student of $30 Music School , but one could mention a different, accredited , school, though I would never suggest you do anything illegal .

The airlines might check, though, so it might be better to enroll in one class in your local community college and get a legit ID number. (They didn't check with a, um, friend of mine who recently went to Europe this way.)

NOTE

Idiot Checks

When staying at someone's house or in a hotel, each person would be wise to stake out one corner to call your own and keep all your stuff there. You never really know when you'll have to split if plans change, and it sucks leaving something behind on the road. (If you do though, you might get someone to Fed-Ex [1.] it to you a couple of stops ahead. And when you leave a gig or any other place, do an idiot check. This is true not only of the band 's equipment, but also of personal things.

[1.] Don't stalk celebrities , but if you really feel the need to get something into the hands of a famous performer, your best bet is to FedEx it to them care of a venue where they'll be performing. Best if it arrives the day before their show. This actually works.

Pack as lightly as possible on tour. There really is no need to bring a whole mess of crap with you on the road. Bringing too much stuff will only prove the Zen thing about how possessions weigh you down. I don't even always bring toothpaste or shampoo. I just use it at the houses or hotels I stay at.

I just bring my cell phone, laptop, and very few changes of clothes. I usually wear the same stuff for a couple of days, and then trade with some girl. I get her stuff; she gets my stuff. She gets a memento, and I get new (to me) stuff. What more do you need?
