Edit Multiple Photos at Once

Re-orienting your photos is the most common edit you want to make to them. Many photos are taken in portrait mode, with the camera turned so the photo is taller than it is wide. If you are using a digital camera, those photos are imported lying on their side. You want to turn them upright and then save them again.

The dimension of a photo is the size at which it will be printed. Most digital cameras take photos of high enough quality that they can be printed at a very large size. Notice that the photo in the figures is more than 31x23 inches. If you are planning to print your photo, you can resize it to your desired print dimensions.

When taking pictures, most people err on the side of getting too much in the picture rather than cutting out something important. This is easy to fix by cropping out the unwanted sections of your photo. Easy Media Creator not only uses a conventional rectangular crop, but it also has several other shapes from which to choose.

Tip

When resizing your photo, remember that you are losing quality if you reduce the size of the picture. If you print your photo from Easy Media Creator, you can actually set the size you want your photo to be printed at, so there is really no need to resize it. By the same token, if you expand the size of your photo, it does not look as good as it did at the smaller setting because increasing the size does not increase the number of available pixels.

Re-orient, Resize, or Crop a Photo

Select Photo from the Open Files Window

From within PhotoSuite, choose the photo from the Open Files window at the bottom of the screen that you would like to re-orient, resize, or crop.

Quick Rotate 90° or 180° Or...

To quickly rotate your photo, click on either the 90° counterclockwise or the 90° clockwise rotation button in the taskbar. If your photo needs rotated 180°, click the button again.

...Rotate a Photo a Specific Degree

If you need to rotate your photo by other than 90° increments, click on the All tab at the top of the tasks pane to open all your editing options. From the Fix menu, select Rotate. This brings up the Rotate window, where you can set a specific degree to rotate your photo. Click Reset if you don't like the results, and your photo returns to its original orientation.

Flip a Photo

You can flip your photo horizontally, vertically, or both. Click on the All tab in the tasks pane to open up all your editing options. From the Fix menu, select Flip. Choose which way you would like to flip your photo and close the window.

Resize Your Photo

You can resize your photo by changing the Height or Width dimension in the taskbar. The proportions of the photo are automatically constrained. That means that if you set the height, the width automatically follows suit to keep the picture proportioned correctly.

Note

You can choose to delineate the size of your photo by inches, pixels, or centimeters, whichever makes the most sense to you. Use the drop-down menu in the taskbar next to the Height and Width settings to change this setting.

Select Crop

If you would like to crop your photo, click on the Crop button in the Fix menu to bring up the Crop window.

Select Crop Shape

After the Crop window has come up, you are able to choose from a variety of shapes to crop your picture. Select the one you would prefer by clicking on it.

Note

When you crop a photo in a shape other than a rectangle, the canvas behind the photo stays rectangular. You can change the color of the canvas to add interest to your photo by choosing the Edit Canvas option from the Tools drop-down menu in the File menu.

Set Crop Size

After you have chosen your preferred shape, you can set the crop size. The Custom option allows you to drag the selection box in the canvas window to highlight the area to be cropped manually. You can also choose several preset sizes from the drop-down menu. You can change an oblong shape to be either portrait (vertical) or landscape (horizontal). If you drag the handles in the corner of the selection box, PhotoSuite maintains the proportions of your photo.

Hide Cropped Area and Close

After you have selected the area and size to be cropped, you can preview the final crop by clicking on the Hide cropped area box. After you are satisfied with your changes, click the close icon at the top of the Crop window. To return the photo to its pre-crop size and shape, click Reset.

Tip

You can use the Straighten tool to straighten a picture that was scanned crookedly rather than trying to rotate it by small degrees, a guessing game at best. Choose the Straighten option from the Fix menu and follow the step-by-step instructions to straighten your photo.
