Lesson 10.1. Viewing Project Statistics

As you work on the project, you will probably want a quick compilation of the project's statistics, such as the duration, work progress, and cost. A summary of this information appears in the Project Statistics dialog box. Here's how to find it.

  1. Navigate to your Practice folder and open Lesson 10. Save the file as Project Status.

    Let's view the status of a project that is just over half done.

  2. Select Project The Project Information dialog box appears.

  3. Click the Statistics button.

    The Project Statistics dialog box appears with the costs of the book so far, as shown in Figure 10-1.

    Notice there are four types of costs in the Cost column. For descriptions of these costs, see Table 10-1.

  4. Click the Close button.

    Compare your current cost and remaining cost to see if you have enough money to finish your project as work progresses. Compare the actual cost and baseline cost to see how your project's budget is progressing.

Cost Type

Description

Current

The cost as it is right now.

Baseline

The project cost at the last time a baseline was saved for the project.

Actual

The cost that has been added up to the current date. For example, if a resource's pay rate is $10 an hour and it works five hours, the actual cost would be $50.

Remaining

The estimated cost that has yet to be added up.
