Linking

Q1:

How do I link layers together to move them at the same time? Someone told me that in order to move several layers together I have to link them. How do I do that?

A1:

You don't have to link the layers to move themjust Command-click (PC: Control-click) on the layers in the Layers palette (or Shift-click to select contiguous layers) to select your layers. Then use the Move tool (V) to reposition all the selected layers at the same time.

Q2:

Can I link any layers together? I want to link a few layers, but they are spread out in the layer stack. Do layers have to be adjacent to be linked?

A2:

You can link any layers you want, regardless of where they appear in the Layers palette. Just select them by Command-clicking (PC: Control-clicking) on each layer, and then click the Link icon at the bottom of the Layers palette.

Q3:

Is there a quick way to unlink a bunch of layers? I've linked 20-something layers together and now I don't want them linked. Do I have to click on each layer to unlink them?

A3:

No, just make sure one of the linked layers is selected, then hold down Option (PC: Alt) and click on the Link icon at the bottom of the Layers palette.
