What Your Online Service Can Do

Your online service provider's site has privacy policies and codes of conduct that describe appropriate behavior and the ways in which they protect members and their privacy. They can expel an offender from their service for inappropriate behavior or, in more severe cases, contact law enforcement and cooperate with them to prosecute a criminal who has committed a crime using their service.

Your provider should offer you

  • Clear safety messaging and instructions on the proper use of their products

  • Easy-to-find advice and information about how to respond to abuse; ideally, abuse reporting information should be on every page of their site

  • A way to easily report abuse to them, if you choose to do so

  • Safety settings so that you can help manage the level of exposure you or your family receives online

  • Fast response to an abuse report

  • Confidentiality

  • Strong ties to law enforcement so that predators and criminals can be caught and punished
