Chapter Summary

 < Day Day Up >

This chapter has provided a basic understanding of how encryption techniques are put to work. You should now be familiar with encryption, PKI techniques, algorithms, certificates, certification authorities, Digital Signatures, and the methods that individuals and organizations use to prove their identity. If these tools are misunderstood, putting them to use can be dangerous and counter-active. Only accurate knowledge of cryptographic tools can help you secure your data.

As with all certification exams, you might have read something here that you won’t see on the test. Be aware that certain explanations are given to establish the framework for concepts and ideas. Thoughtful study of these essential concepts will make the difference between selecting the right answer or the wrong one.

Now, go through these review questions and when you’re done, go through them again. If you miss an answer, learn why. Keep taking all of the practice tests in this book and on the CD-ROM until you score perfectly. The aim of this book is to zero in on the facts that are needed to pass the Security+ exam but don’t forget there are many additional resources out there to help you understand these concepts. If you have Internet access, they are right at your fingertips.
