REGISTERING FOR THE A TESTS

REGISTERING FOR THE A+ TESTS

This book has you and your certification status in mind. You (the examinee) must reduce the stress levels involved with preparing and scheduling for the tests in order to focus your energy on your goal: getting A+ certified for life. The A+ Exams Guide (2003 Objectives) is your best resource.

In the United States and Canada, there are two companies to register with to take the A+ certification tests (as well as other certification tests): Pearson VUE and Prometric. You can register online or call either company. To register with Pearson VUE, visit http://www.vue.com, or call 1-877-551-PLUS (7587). To register with Prometric, visit http://www.2test.com, or call 1-800-776-4276.

On the CD You are required to register at least 12 hours before you take the test. If you decide to cancel after registering, you must call 12 hours before your scheduled test time to cancel, or you will forfeit your money. Your best bet is to pick a target date for taking the tests, give yourself at least 30 days to study this book, and answer all questions correctly on the included test-preparation CD-ROM. Register at least three days ahead of the date and time you wish to sit for the exams. Ask the registration person for the nearest test center location.

Currently, the cost of each test is approximately $145 (U.S.). You do not get your money back if you fail. That’s around $300 to get certified (not including this book), so don’t fail! You can take each test separately or take them together. For complete CompTIA exam pricing by country, please visit: http://www.comptia.org/certification/general_information/test_pricing.asp?type=certification.

If you pass one test, you will get credit for that test only. You must pass both tests to become A+ certified. In other words, if you pass one test and fail the other, you must re-register for the test you failed and pass it to complete the certification objectives. If you pass both tests, you are instantly A+ certified. A welcome kit will be sent to you within four to six weeks, depending on shipping and other factors.

Information you need to have ready before you register:

  • Your name, company name, and your mailing address.

  • The exam name and number you wish to take—in this case, A+ Core Hardware Service Technician exam 220-301 and/or A+ Operating Systems Technologies exam 220-302.

  • Your method of payment. For quick registration and getting the testing date and time slot that fits your schedule, pay with a valid credit card. Other forms of payment must be received by the registration center before the tests can be scheduled.
