Section 23.2. The Audience for Bugnosis

23.2. The Audience for Bugnosis

We wanted to make Bugnosis as widely available as possible. Our strategy for this was to make it appealing to mainstream technology journalists and policy makersthe bellwethers of personal and desktop computing. We did assume that these users knew at least vaguely that web surveillance was an issue, but otherwise we were faced with a wide spectrum of technical ability, so we assumed a generally low level of technical sophistication. Bugnosis really needed to do just one thing, and it needed to do it well. It needed to install cleanly, require little configuration, and tell its story simply. And finally, when the user got tired of it, it needed to go away quietly.
