Introduction

The crux of file and folder management is the file system that is installed on the hard disk. Windows XP Professional offers three options for file systems, inherited from its predecessorsWindows 9x/Me and Windows NT/2000:

  • FAT16

  • FAT32

  • NTFS

In this chapter, you review each of these file systems and then focus on the file and folder management capabilities that are inherent in New Technology File System (NTFS). You will also look at offline folders, hidden folders, compression, and web server resource management.
